Wig recipient praises LPT's wig provision service

Georgia loves her real hair wig after being diagnosed with cancer

“I cannot thank The Little Princess Trust, the people who donate, and the wig fitter enough, you have all made my journey with cancer so much more bearable.”

These are words are from Georgia, one of our wonderful wig recipients.

After being diagnosed with cancer just two days before Christmas, 2022, Georgia’s biggest fear was losing her hair. When it was confirmed she had Hodgkin Lymphoma, and was told that there was a high likelihood that she would experience hair loss, her doctor put her in contact with us at The Little Princess Trust.

She told us, “I’ve always had fairly long hair, and enjoyed dying and styling it, so the prospect of being bald was really scary. Would I recognise the person that looked back at me in the mirror?”

She mentioned that she found the process of requesting a wig really simple, and was pleased to receive such a “quick and positive” response from our Wig Referrals team.

Once her hair started to fall out, she decided to shave her hair off to help make the process easier. With some close friends and family members, Georgia took the opportunity to try lots of different hair styles - incuding a fringe and a bob - before bravely shaving off her hair.  And, although pleasantly surprised with how she liked her new style, she has said that, “knowing I already had a wig appointment scheduled definitely made it easier to accept.”

Recently becoming more used to her new look, Georgia has expressed her comfort in wearing her headscarf, however is still so grateful to have received her wig, telling us, “the security of the wig being an option, for whenever I want, is invaluable”.

It’s feedback like this that shows the real difference that every penny and ponytail makes to our wonderful wig recipients. We would love to say a huge thank you all of our supporters who help us reach as many children and young people who need our service, as possible.

We would also love to say a huge thank you to Georgia, for letting us share her story with you all, and we hope you join us in sending so much love and best wishes for her treatment and recovery.
