Kiya's 'Big Chop' event at Liverpool Hope University

Kiya's 'Big Chop' event at Liverpool Hope University

Our amazing Ambassador helps us to mark our 20th year!

Kiya Kanani took her relapse of Hodgkin’s lymphoma as an opportunity to do something amazing for our mission.

Having recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma for the second time, Kiya received a new wig from LPT.

In response to her relapse, Kiya decided to take this as an opportunity to make a positive change, and do something amazing for our mission and help us mark our 20th year.

Incorporating a fundraiser and hair donation into their Student’s Union’s ‘Spring Fling’, Kiya and her friends and peers really have gone above and beyond for LPT!

Three students, bravely decided to donate their hair, with hairdressers from City of Liverpool College kindly donating their time to make the big chops for these SuperHairoes!

We are so grateful to be receiving these hair donations, and they certainly will make a huge difference in our mission of giving Hair and Hope.

The event managed to raise a staggering £1,349 for LPT, and we are so incredibly grateful for every penny these amazing friends have been able to raise for us!

Jemma, the President of the Student’s Union for Liverpool Hope University, heavily supported Kiya with organising this event while she was undergoing her treatment.

Jemma said: “This was honestly one of the most wholesome events I could have organised in my career so far. I am so chuffed with the amount that was raised, Kiya has been such an inspiration.”

Speaking about hair loss, Kiya told us that losing her hair was something she “could never prepare for” and felt that she was losing a “key part of [her] identity”.

She’s said: “Once I started to lose my hair, I knew that slowly I would lose a key part of my identity.

"I started to lose my confidence and I didn’t want to go out or take any photos. My wig’s very close to my natural hair and so I very quickly felt like me again and confidence increased.

"I think honestly without my wig I don’t think I would have had such a positive outlook throughout my cancer journey.”

Everyone at LPT is so incredibly grateful for this wonderful support from Kiya and her friends, and we hope you join us in sending her so much love and support for her treatment and recovery.
