Tracy Shaw cut her hair as she begins treatment for breast cancer

Coronation Street’s Tracy Shaw has very kindly donated her hair to LPT before starting treatment for breast cancer.

Back in April, Tracy shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and recently decided to donate her long locks before losing them as a side effect to her chemotherapy.

The 52-year-old, who played Maxine Peacock in Corrie, had her hair plaited into sections before it was cut off.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, the actress then held out her hair before the stylist started work on her new shorter look.

She captioned the video: “Hair will be donated to (the) Little Princess Trust. Another step on this breast cancer journey.

“Goodbye for now crazy hair. Before chemo takes you away completely, I will enjoy what’s left for now.”

Tracy also shared pictures of her new hair cut, adding: “To all you cancer survivors, I’m coming.”

She received lots of comments including one from another Coronation Street actress. Sally Dynevor – who has battled cancer herself – said: “You look amazing Tracy. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do xxxx.”

Tracy Shaw, before her hair cut, was in Coronation Street from 1995 to 2003.

Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria in the ITV soap, added: “Always beautiful. Always.”

Meanwhile a fan commented: “You look fantastic. Remember Yazz from the 80s..that’s the look! Wish a better reason for it but if it’s got to happen then y’might aswell rock it lady!!”

In another Instagram video, Tracy explained the emotional struggle she faces.

“Each morning I wake up and know that I have to go into hospital and receive more news, which has been going on for a long time, that unknown…" she said.

Tracy's hair will be used to make wigs for children and young people up to the age of 24.

"I just think, ‘I can’t go through with this anymore,’ but I’ve not even started my journey.”

Becoming upset, the actress said: “I’ve had a good cry. I’ll go in later today and I’ll meet some other ladies who will start the treatment with me – chemo.”

Tracy played Maxine for eight years, from 1995 until 2003, before Maxine was murdered by serial killer Richard Hillman.
