A Message from a Wig Recipient

A Message from a Wig Recipient

We spoken to Kiya about hair loss and what her LPT wig meant to her

Hair plays such a big role in our sense of identity.

The length, colour, and texture are all so important to making us look and feel like ourselves, and when this is taken away, it can be difficult to navigate.

Every day, kind, generous, and thoughtful people selflessly cut their hair to donate to us here at The Little Princess Trust, and these hair donors play an essential role in our mission of giving Hair and Hope to children and young people experiencing hair loss.

However, no one can better sum up what this support means than one of our wig recipients. That’s why we have spoken to Kiya, one of our wig recipients and ambassadors, to show the difference our supporters can make.

Kiya has received wigs from us as her treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma has made her experience hair loss, and frequently tells us the difference wearing a wig makes to her confidence.

So, to anyone who has supported LPT or is thinking about getting involved in the future, hear from Kiya to understand what a huge difference your support can make:

“When I found out that I would lose my hair, I only found peace with it once I had received my wig from The Little Princess Trust.

Having a wig helped to restore a part of myself that cancer had taken from me. A piece of my identity had been snatched and it made me struggle to recognise the person in the mirror looking back at me.

Once I received my wig, it also gifted me the confidence to shave my hair and speed up the falling out process.

From being free of finding clumps of hair, to looking like myself before cancer and not as sick as I felt – these things may seem small, but they were the reasons why I could get up and feel a little bit more confident going about my day and leaving the house.

Putting that wig on felt so relieving.

To a teenager, losing physical attributes when you’re still trying to figure yourself out as a person makes life so much harder. LPT helped me make sure that I had a temporary fix to, what felt like at the time, an end-of-the-world situation.

I will be forever grateful and thankful that I had a wig and for the charity's never ending support. That’s what made the biggest difference to my cancer journey, and I will never be able to thank them enough.”

Whether you have grown your hair out specifically to donate to us, fancied an impulsive change, or set up a fundraiser we are so incredibly grateful to everyone who thinks of us and our mission. However you support LPT, you are directly helping us to restore the confidence and identity of children and young people experiencing hair loss through our free wig provision service and research mission.
