Paediatric Hepatic International Tumour Trial

With Professor Keith Wheatley

Although liver cancer is rare in children and young people, we still need more research to understand it better and to find better treatments. Most patients are treated successfully but the treatment can cause serious side effects like heart failure, kidney damage and even secondary cancer.

Professor Keith Wheatley at the University of Brimingham is running the largest clinical trial ever for children and young people with liver cancer. The research team are working with researchers in Europe, the USA, and Japan so that as many patients as possible can get involved. They are trying to find the best treatments for each type of liver cancer to help other young people with liver cancer. The Little Princess Trust, in partnership with CCLG, has funded two more years of this project, which has been running since 2016.
