Wig Provision for Non-Cancer Diagnoses
In line with the charity’s objects, in addition to helping children and young people with hair loss from cancer treatment, we will also provide free real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss as a result of ‘other conditions’ which are non-cancerous. In these instances, a single wig is provided free of charge to help with the initial trauma of hair loss. Families are issued with a letter explaining the charity’s ‘Wig Provision for Non-Cancer Diagnoses Guidelines’.
‘Other conditions’ include:
- Ectodermal dysplasia
- Loose anagen syndrome
- Epidermolysis bullosa
- Netherton Syndrome
- Severe burns
- Aplastic Anaemia
- Hair loss from reaction to organ transplant medication or dialysis
- Head shaving due to (non-cancerous) brain surgery
- Alopecia combined with another non hair loss related condition
- Surgical procedure (not connected with cancer) resulting in hair loss
Please note this list is not exhaustive.
We will also provide free real hair wigs to boys and girls who experience ‘significant suffering’, in line with our cancer diagnoses policy.
Significant suffering refers to hair loss paired with injury, or scarring to the head as a result of injury or to life-limiting conditions.
